Industrial warehouses like those on Jiak Kim Street harken back to the Singapore River’s days as a shipping hub nearly 200 years ago. The three warehouses on Jiak Kim Street were repurposed in 1991 and became the home of Zouk nightclub for the next 26 years.
The row of three warehouses has been preserved in its most recent incarnation, and will be transformed into a “24×7 lifestyle hub” as part of the luxury mixed-use project Rivière, developed by Singapore-listed property group Frasers Property.

Rivière will feature 455 residences in twin 36-story glass towers, as well as a four-story block of serviced apartments adjacent to the preserved warehouses. The project is built on a 145,055 square foot, 99-year leasehold lot. The “24×7 lifestyle hub” will include a roastery, lounge bar, dining hall and social kitchen, meeting rooms, and co-working space within the warehouses. According to Kelvin Thong, branch district director at PropNex Realty, the project’s marketing agency, there will also be an event hall where social activities for residents will be held, ranging from cooking and baking classes to yoga and pilates.

Timeless appeal, water views

“Only half of the units in most condominium developments along the Singapore River have a river view,” Thong continues. “At Rivière, however, all 455 units will have a spectacular river view.” It has a 300m waterfront due to its location along the bend of the Singapore River. Rivière was created by renowned architect Chan Soo Khian, the founding principal and design director of SCDA Architects. The Marq on Paterson Hill, Leedon Residence, and Nassim Park Residences are among the luxury condo projects designed by Chan.

Aside from the sleek, clean lines of the glass towers, impeccable finish, and manicured gardens that have become synonymous with Chan’s designs, future residences at Rivière will also include smart home features. “The project’s appeal is the timelessness of its design,” says PropNex’s Thong.

Reputation for quality developments

It is the first time Frasers Property and SCDA have worked together. Frasers Property has built a reputation for quality developments over the course of more than 40 years. It has built over 21,000 homes in Singapore, as well as a commercial portfolio of 14 shopping malls and seven office buildings, business space, and business park complexes.

Central Park, a residential precinct with 2,200 apartments in Chippendale, Sydney’s inner city, is one of Frasers Property’s most significant projects in Australia.
